Youth Programs

Our Junior Volunteer Program offers young people the chance to gain valuable work experience, develop new skills, and serve their community. 

Program Overview:
Appropriate for ages 13-16​

Volunteer opportunities may include:

  • Assisting in children’s day care programs

  • Helping with after-school enrichment activities

  • Park or facility maintenance

  • Office support and clerical help

  • Other tasks as needed


Volunteer positions may be eligible for school credit (SLVHS students should confirm requirements with their school counselor).
Minimum commitment: One day per week for at least two hours, on a month by month basis.

Thursdays

Ages: 7–11 years
Time: 4:30 PM – 5:45 PM

 

Kids in the Kitchen invites budding chefs to experiment with recipes, learn cooking techniques, and explore culinary creativity. They develop teamwork, problem-solving, and confidence as they prepare delicious dishes together. 

Rhythm Revolution - youth hip hop dance club

Tuesdays​

Little Hoppers
Ages: 3–6 years
Time: 2:30 PM – 3:15 PM
Cost: $200 per session
Blending music and movement to foster coordination, rhythm, and self-expression. Dancers build confidence as they learn simple routines and find their own creative groove.

Hip Hop Heroes
Ages: 6-9 years
Time: 3:20 PM – 4:15 PM
Cost: $160 per session (or $100 KFD add on)
Encouraging self-expression through instructor lead choreography. Students learn new steps, improve coordination, and enjoy the camaraderie of performing together.

Street Vibes
Ages: 9–12 years
Time: 4:20 PM – 5:20 PM
Cost: $160 per session (or $100 KFD add on)
Encouraging self-expression through dynamic routines set to energetic music. Students learn new steps, improve coordination, and enjoy the camaraderie of performing together.

Little Scientists
Encourages curiosity through hands-on STEM activities, simple experiments, and weekly themes. Children learn to ask questions, make observations, and discover the wonders of the world around them. 

Physics in Action
Explore the basics of physics through fun projects like the Egg Drop Challenge. Kids will design and build structures to protect an egg from a high fall, while learning about gravity, motion, and materials. This session encourages teamwork and creative problem-solving in a supportive environment.

 

Nature Quest
Join us outdoors in local parks and the downtown recreation center for hands-on nature activities. Kids will participate in guided walks, explore habitats, and engage in conservation projects. This session helps them appreciate the environment, develop observation skills, and learn sustainable practices through interactive fun.

 

Toddler Soccer Stars

Starts: October 8th at the downtown Rec Center gym

When: Tuesdays October 8 - March 25th

Monthly commitment only

Age: 2.5-4.5 yrs

Time: 11am-11:45am

Cost: $60 per month

Discounted rate for Little Explorers already enrolled on Tuesday's: $32 per month

The Soccer Stars program is designed to be a fun introduction to soccer. We will play age appropriate games and learn the basic rules of the game. We will practice skills and play games to help build those skills. Goals for this age group are to increase confidence, instill a love of the game, and provide space to make new friends.

Exploring a variety of art materials and techniques, inspiring kids to create their own masterpieces. Children develop fine motor skills, imagination, and confidence through colorful, hands-on projects.

Beaded & Bedazzled:
2/28 - 3/28 | 4-week session [no program 3/14] + kids booth at Kids Fest 3/23
Cost: $115 per session
Description: This special “Beaded & Bedazzled” edition of Art Variety is all about jewelry-making! Young artists will explore various techniques—from stringing beads to crafting one-of-a-kind pieces—while practicing design and color theory. Throughout the session, they’ll discover new ways to express themselves and develop hands-on artistic skills.

Crochet, Knot, Macrame:
4/25 - 5/16 | 4-week session
Cost: $115 per session
Description: Discover the creative world of crochet, macramé, and other yarn-based crafts in our Yarn & Knot Art Class. Perfect for all skill levels, you'll learn diverse techniques to create beautiful and unique projects in a friendly, supportive environment. Join us to unleash your creativity

Santa Cruz Mountain Art Center presents: 
Art After School for Boulder Creek Elementary students

2nd-5th graders will complete a variety of guided projects including watercolor and ink, sculpture/character creation, window pane art, and cyanotype art. Take as many sessions as you like! All materials are included. Pack a healthy snack and bring a water bottle.

Drop off option for girls who don't attend BCE @ 3pm at our downtown Rec Center.

Circle 

Circle is a play based preschool aged program with a focus on positive social emotional skills.   Each day children enjoy exploring, playing, crafting and building community in a safe and inclusive environment.

Santa Cruz Mountain Learning Collective

SCMLC is a two day a week program run through South Street Centre that offers enrichment, support and community for homeschooling families of children K-5. Families sign up for our 9 month program which runs from September through May.

On Mondays, the program meets at Mt. Cross in Ben Lomond for an outdoor education class. On Wednesdays, the students meet at Bear Creek Clubhouse in Boulder Creek to participate in a project based classroom experience.  

Most importantly, SCMLC is a group of fun loving, exceptional families, working together to create a program for our kids where they can build friendships, inspire curiosity and most of all have fun learning and playing. 

COST: $280 per month September through May 10-2pm

Cub Scout Pack 623

Cub Scouting is fun for the whole family, serving

our local youth in K-5th grade. It involves fun,

hands-on learning and achievement that

puts kids in the middle of the action

and prepares them for today, 

and for life.

We hike, camp, learn and play.

Scout Troop 623

Boy Scout Troop 623 provides opportunities for boys in the Santa Cruz Mountains to engage in character development through participation in troop meetings

and outings. We have fun

camping, hiking and river

rafting.

Each year

the Troop attends

Summer Camp.

at the Boulder Creek

Recreation
